LecturerToday I'll explain why the world's forests are disappearing, and what can stop the loss.
LecturerThe clearing of forests has a name: deforestation, and it is happening at an alarming rate.
LecturerThe leading cause worldwide is clearing land for cattle, to graze on the open ground.
LecturerNext comes growing crops, especially a single oily one, the oil palm.
LecturerLogging matters too, as huge old trees are cut down for valuable timber.
LecturerThe harm is serious: a cleared forest releases the carbon its trees had stored for centuries.
