LilyThey blame straws and bags, but those are a tiny part. Most ocean plastic is far less visible.

ResearcherExactly — the eye-catching items aren't the main problem. So where does most of it come from, Omar?

OmarRivers, mostly. A handful of big rivers carry the bulk of it from the land to the sea.

ResearcherCorrect, and that tells us where to act. Now, was beach-cleaning a waste of time, then?

LilyNo — it still helps, but it treats the symptom. Stopping plastic at the source matters far more.
