TutorToday I want you both to argue a position. Aisha, you argue that leadership is primarily about vision — where the organisation is headed. Kwame, you argue it is about people skills. Let us begin.
AishaA leader without a long-term plan is just managing day-to-day tasks. The research supports this — companies led by visionary leaders grew revenues three times faster over a ten-year period.
KwameBut vision is useless without trust. And trust is built through consistency — doing what you say you will do, every time. A leader who talks about honesty but cuts corners destroys credibility.
TutorKwame, what did the study find about leaders who admitted mistakes?
KwameInterestingly, teams led by leaders who openly acknowledged errors had twenty per cent higher engagement scores. People felt safer to take risks themselves.
AishaI accept that point. But the most damaging thing in that same study was unclear communication. Nearly half of employees said they had acted on a misunderstood instruction at least once.
