CuratorWelcome to our new local history wing. Five rooms lead you through the town's whole story, room by room.

CuratorRoom one begins at the beginning, with the founding of the town in 1150, when monks cleared the forest.

CuratorRoom two moves to the water, telling the building of the harbour that made the town rich.

CuratorRoom three is full of looms and wool, covering the years of the cloth trade.

CuratorRoom four is darker, remembering the great flood of 1840, which swept away half the bridge.

CuratorAnd room five brings us up to date, showing the town as it is today, through your own photographs.
