SpeakerWelcome. I am Hannah, and today I will share proven strategies for requesting a pay rise with confidence.
SpeakerThe first principle: never go into a salary conversation without knowing what others in equivalent roles earn. Use salary websites and professional networks to build your evidence.
SpeakerSecond: the timing of your request matters as much as the content. After a major achievement or during a positive performance review is the ideal moment.
SpeakerThird: frame your request around what you will deliver in the future, not just what you have done in the past. Managers respond better to forward-looking conversations.
SpeakerFourth: if you are offered a pay rise, take time to understand the full package before responding. A rise in salary might come with fewer bonus opportunities or a change in contract.
SpeakerFifth: if the answer is no, do not simply accept defeat. Ask your manager to define what you need to achieve to make the case in three to six months' time.
