LecturerToday we look at wind power — one of the oldest ways humans have captured energy, now reborn as modern electricity.
LecturerThe idea is simple. Moving air pushes the long blades of a turbine, and as they turn, they spin a shaft inside.
LecturerThat shaft drives a generator, and it is the generator that actually turns the spinning motion into electricity.
LecturerHeight matters enormously. The wind is stronger higher up, which is why modern towers are so tall.
LecturerA single large turbine today can power around fifteen hundred homes when the wind blows steadily.
LecturerMany turbines grouped together form what we call a wind farm, either on land or out at sea.
