LecturerToday we look at one of science's most famous tools: using a person's DNA to help solve a crime.
LecturerThe whole method rests on one simple fact: apart from identical twins, no two people share exactly the same DNA.
LecturerAt a crime scene, officers can collect DNA from the tiniest trace — a single hair is often enough.
LecturerBack in the lab, the sample is copied many times, because the original amount is usually far too small to read.
LecturerThe machine then turns the DNA into a pattern of bands that looks rather like a supermarket barcode.
