DoyleCarol, you wanted to talk about retiring. Where exactly are you up to with your plans?
CarolWell, I'm fifty-five now, and I'd love to stop work at sixty. I just need to know whether I can actually afford it.
DoyleLet's see. You've actually saved impressively — better than most people I see. But on these figures, there would be a gap of around three years where your money runs short.
CarolOh dear. So what would you suggest I do about that?
DoyleThe simplest fix is to work just two years longer, until sixty-two. That single change closes the gap almost entirely.
CarolI suppose I could manage that. And what about the state pension?
